Daf Yomi is studying the Talmud one page (Daf) a day until completion. Takes about seven and a half years. The completion of just one volume (Masechet) is cause for a celebration (Siyum), but when you finish the entire Talmud it is cause for a Siyum HaShas! I was fortunate enough to complete the 12th cycle of Daf Yomi and attend the Siyum HaShas at the MetLife Stadium with nearly 100,000 fellow devotees of learning.
A page a day is super hard. Try that for 7.5 years. I learned a lot, but what really impacted me was I found time to keep on track with the cycle. Only falling a few pages behind at most, and always finding time to catch up. What happened to my super busy life that I never felt I had time to do what I loved? I learned I had the time.
If you are a runner, you've learned the same discipline it takes to study a vast wealth of knowledge stored one page at a time.
Looking forward to the completion of the 13th cycle of Daf Yomi on Saturday Jan 4th, 2020 (7th Tevet 5780 5th year of the Shmitah cycle). There will be a Daf Yomi Marathon.
